Since India's majority of it's air defence gun is made up of soviet designed ZU-23 the Indian govt. raised a tender for the upgradation of these guns with modern technology to increase their longevity and effectiveness . Punj lloyd was awarded the tender by the Indian ministry of defence for the upgradation of this gun with better precision and firing systems. .The contract is worth $400 million. Punj Lloyd forayed into the Indian defence sector in the year 2006 and has so far formed a joint venture with Israeli weapons Industries to make Tavor bull pup rifles and uzi submachine guns to the Indian security forces.
