According to a report by Times of India the negotiations for the delivery of further Talwar class stealth frigates have gained traction. As the Indo-Russian Military Technical Cooperation Working Group is holding a two day meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday. Official defense ministry sources have stated so far that a Technological-Commercial plan has been submitted for these pocket battleships. The plan states that two frigates would come from Russia and the rest of them would be built here in India. According to sources in the meeting other backlogged projects like the manufacturing of the KA-226T helicopter, the delivery of the S-400 Triumf system was discussed along with the possible lease of another Russian nuclear submarine. The first two frigates are lying half constructed condition due to a crunch of funds faced by the shipyard also due to no availability of the CODAG engines which are manufactured in Ukraine. Ukraine due to Russia's involvement in the civil war taking part in the region on Donetsk and the seizure of Crimea by Russian armed forces has refused to supply these engines to the shipyard. And, the Russian designed engine that was to be used in these frigates is not ready yet. Since India already operates the Talwar class of frigates it would be a much more viable customer for the sale and since Ukraine and India has working relations so the transfer of engines can take place easily.
