According a report by TASS Vladmir Putin the Russian President has said that India and Russia would work towards extending the range of the Brahmos missile system along with development of the FGFA. The report states that Mr.Putin specifically stated that India and Russia would work towards extending the range of the Brahmos system. Since India is now a part of MTCR and sale of long range cruise missile system and drones would be much easier than before. It it possible to increase the range of the Brahmos through simple software patch or a software upgrade as the Brahmos is based on the P-800 Oniks missile which has an operational range of 600 Km. According to developers no structural changes would be required. Also according to RUAVIATION India and Russia are soon going to sign a formal contract on the development of a miniature version of Brahmos it's also stated that Indian and Russian scientists had begun working on a miniature version of the system it would be two to three man operated portable system and would carry a warhead weighing anywhere between 200 Kg to 300 Kg
