A new report by French major news agency LA Tribune has made an unsolicited call to supply the Indian navy three more Scorpene class submarines fitted with DRDO AIP (Air Independent propulsion) system. Already being built are six submarines of the Scorpene class designed by the French shipyard DCNS is looking to supply another set of three submarines to help combat the Indian navy it's shortage of sub-surface fleet. With it's depleting numbers of submarines with the majority of them on their last legs the Indian government was weighing in it's option to use a clause which was present in the contract for the six submarines. The clause would've allowed the Indian government to buy three more submarines but with leakage of the data regarding the capabilities of the submarine and it's sensitive equipment the government decided not to. Now the LA Tribune has stated that India and France has set up a joint working group to manage this issue and India has been completely assured. The French company DCNS is looking forward to take part in the upcoming P-75i competition where six submarines fitted with AIP and VLS (Vertical Launch System) would be built in India.
